The category of comedy has been a recurring, complex, aesthetic category since antiquity. The high importance of comedy in interpersonal communication contributes considerably to the understanding of the foreign language culture. Therefore, comedy can be regarded as one of the fundamental elements of intercultural communication and literature. The works of Wladimir Kaminer, a German writer of Russian origin, are a classic example of intercultural identity in German-language contemporary literature. Humour is an essential component of his style. In his books, the author acts as a sagacious, participating, funny observer of multicultural processes. This paper addresses comedy and its specific relation to interculturality, which is expressed in Wladimir Kaminer’s works.
