This paper aims to present a possible method for the linguistic description of a verbal word field. The focus is on the grouping based on differentiating semes and the characterization of the core semantics of the verbs using semes. The paper aims to provide an overview of possible Hungarian equivalents of German verbs and to determine whether the semantic description of the Hungarian verbs is adequate using the same method. The use of German and Hungarian example sentences serves to illustrate the possible filling of gaps in both German and Hungarian. From a contrastive perspective, the need to incorporate additional components in the semantic description is emphasized.
