The English language is regarded as a lingua franca and a global means of communication among Arabs. Likewise, as the Arabic language becomes increasingly significant for religious, economic, political, and other reasons, the number of foreigners who are eager to learn it continues to rise. As a result, offering a thorough comparison of the phonologies of the two languages can help learners master both languages more efficiently and smoothly. The current paper is a contrastive analysis between British English Received Pronunciation (RP) and Modern Standard Arabic (MSA) sound systems from a segmental point of view, where the consonant and vowel inventories of both languages are presented with examples to demonstrate the major differences and similarities. This analysis is claimed to pave the way to locate the first language L1 transfer and interference, leading to predicting the areas of pronunciation difficulties in which to enhance the teaching and learning processes of both languages.
