Abstract In this paper,1 I explore the current discourse on climate change by drawing on two philosophical concepts – causality and teleology. In the first part of the paper, I will provide a conceptual analysis, examine climate change itself and the concepts associated with climate change, and then turn to an introduction to the two philosophical concepts. In the second part of the paper, I will make a practical philosophical analysis of climate change, using examples from Germany and Switzerland. In particular, I will draw on the results of the 4π symposia in 2022. I will start from the premise that environmental protection, perhaps the greatest challenge facing humanity in the 21st century, has to date been essentially limited to climate change, and within that to reducing carbon emissions. We are seeing a push for solutions that can only be implemented in the richest countries. I shall point out that climate change is only one of the seventeen sustainability factors in the UN’s Agenda 2030 action plan. At the same time, the fear-mongering about climate change is driven by clearly identifiable human interests.
