In Translation Studies, research on explicitation has attracted outstanding research attention. Explicitation is considered a translation universal; in other words, a universal linguistic feature characteristic of translated texts, irrespective of the language pairs involved (Laviosa-Braithwaite, 1998). According to Chesterman, explicitation is an S-universal; S or Source universals of translation describe differences or shifts between source language texts and their translated target language equivalents (Chesterman, 2011, p. 176).
