In chapter one, interpreting was defined, followed by the description of the types of interpreting. Then the broader topic of this volume, consecutive interpreting was introduced, followed by describing directionality in interpreting. In section 1.5, the models relevant to the investigations presented in this volume were detailed, namely the Interpretive Theory of the Paris School, Gile’s Effort Models, Seeber’s Cognitive Load Model, Setton’s Cognitive-Pragmatic model, and Gumul’s Model of Interpreting Constraints. In section 1.6, a model of short-section (no note-taking) consecutive interpreting is provided based on the models introduced in section 1.5.
