The first limitation is the small sample size, there are only four participants in this study.

In addition, the target language texts were recorded in a language lab, which hinders the ecological validity of the present investigation, however, this was the only way to guarantee identical conditions for the students of interpreting.

Further, the use of three different, albeit comparable SL texts might have an impact on the comparability of results. This is especially the case with semester three, where the question remains whether it was the difficulty of the SL text or a temporary decline in the students’ performance what explains the results. A possible solution could have been to use two speeches per semester.

Finally, the study investigates short-section consecutive interpreting and does not take note-taking into consideration.
