In Interpreting Studies, the understanding of cognition in interpreting is mostly based on theory (Gile, 2015a, p. 41), although recently there has been an increasing research interest related to the cognitive aspects of interpreting in general, and to cognitive load in particular. Cognitive load, in other words, the idea that the human brain can carry out only a limited number of tasks at a given time and that only a limited amount of information can be kept available for processing at any time (Seeber, 2015, p. 60) first appeared in the Effort Models of Gile.
