Gile (1995) posits that both in the interpreting and translation professions there exist a diversity of performance levels and conditions, and argues that interpreter training, although not mandatory in many of the performance levels and conditions, is useful because it can help people who wish to work as interpreters to “enhance their performance to the full realization of their potential” (Gile, 1995, p. 3), and to help these people to “develop their Translation [translation and interpreting] skills more rapidly than through field experience and self-instruction” (Gile, 1995, p. 3).
