In conference interpreting, there is a great variety of training programs, including six-month in-house training programs, BA- and MA-level programs and post-graduate specialized programs (Pöchhacker, 2022): the most frequent format being two or four semester master’s programs (Pöchhacker, 2022). There are, however, considerable differences between training programs concerning the proportion of professional and academic courses, and the thesis (Pöchhacker, 2022). Gile highlights the benefits of the inclusion of Translation (translation and interpreting) theory into the training programs (Gile, 1995, pp. 12–14), arguing that theoretical components of interpreter training should help students to understand phenomena, translation or interpreting difficulties, and translation strategies recommended by their interpreter trainers (Gile, 1995, p. 13). Once acquiring this understanding, students might advance faster and further, and will be able to select appropriate strategies during interpreting (Gile, 1995, pp. 13–14).
