The processes of translation and interpreting are complex processes (Hurtado Albir & Alves, 2009, p. 54; Gile, 2015a, p. 48), involving several, interconnected abilities and skills (Hurtado Albir & Alves, 2009, p. 54). This makes modelling the process of interpreting inherently difficult. In this section, five models of interpreting are presented, all of which are considered relevant for the investigations presented in this volume, namely the Interpretive Theory of of the Paris School, Gile’s Effort Models, Seeber’s Model of Cognitive Load, Setton’s Cognitive-Pragmatic Model, and Gumul’s Model of Interpreting Constraints.
